Artificial Intelligence in Research
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly used in research to boost productivity by streamlining processes like literature reviews. However, the use of AI necessitates guidelines to ensure ethical and effective use.
Researchers at Northern Health must ensure all AI use aligns with principles of privacy, data security, transparency, and research integrity.
Please refer to the Guidance on the Use of AI for Research at Northern Health for up-to-date requirements, approved tools, and acceptable use standards.
Researchers are responsible for ensuring AI use is fully disclosed in study documentation and appropriately acknowledged in outputs.
Clinical Use of AI
The Clinical Use of AI defined as any AI tool or system that informs, influences, or supports clinical decision-making, diagnosis, patient monitoring, or care pathways- carries additional safety, risk, and regulatory considerations. If researchers intend to use AI clinically within their research, they must obtain the appropriate ethics approval and research governance authorisation prior to any use with patients or clinical data. No clinical AI activity may commence until all required approvals are in place.
