Nursing Careers and Education
Nurturing and developing opportunities for the staff of the future is the linchpin of Northern Health’s approach to teaching and patient care. Northern Health has a major teaching facility at The Northern Hospital and provides education at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
We have a dedicated Northern Centre for Health Education and Research which supports Registered Nurses and Midwives in obtaining and maintaining current clinical and academic knowledge to assist in the delivery of quality, timely appropriate patient care.
The Education Centre provides support, education and career advancement opportunities to more than 800 nurses employed by Northern Health. We provide programs in formats as diverse as half hour in-service education sessions to one year post-registration courses. Education sessions are open to all nurses and midwives employed by Northern Health’s five campuses and all affiliated local nursing homes and hostels. Education is free of charge to all Northern Health employees.
The education programs are continually evaluated to ensure we are meeting the needs of our nursing and midwifery population. Each year we conduct needs analysis surveys of our staff to help us plan the education programs to meet their needs. Education is always changing and evolving, and we are flexible and ready to meet the challenge.
