Workplace Innovations in Training Funding

May 14, 2018

On Friday, 4 May, Northern Health joined RMIT at their Bundoora campus, welcoming Colin Brooks MP in announcing $1.5m State Government funding for enrolled nursing education.

The funding will deliver the Transforming Enrolled Nurse Education – From conventional learning to situational learning Project. Shifting from the classroom to a situated learning model for Diploma of Nursing students.

RMIT University and Northern Health have joined forces to establish an innovative immersive training program for enrolled nurses.

Northern Health is committed to attracting, training and retaining highly skilled local health care professionals to meet the growing needs of our community.

The program is based on a situated learning model with students experiencing the clinical environment across Northern Health campuses during their learning.

There are 24 students enrolled currently who have progressed a third of the way through the 18-month program.

Our goal is to welcome these students from our community into Northern Health for employment upon completion of the course.

By undertaking placement at Northern Health campuses during their studies, the students will become accustomed to our culture, policies and procedures, building a rapport and establishing relationships that will last into employment.

We welcome the State Government funding for the program and thank RMIT’s School of Vocational Engineering, Health and Science for their successful application with the support of Northern Health.
