Ensuring those that work in healthcare are healthy and well themselves is vital. More specifically, the health and wellbeing of Doctors, Nurses, Allied Health and other support services is crucial to the health of our communities, patient outcomes and sustainable practice.

Northern Health Emergency Department is proud to participate in the International Emergency Management Wellness Week 2019. Northern Health will be running this from Friday, 5 April to Thursday, 11 April.

Wellness Week #IEMWell19, is a collaboration between the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), WraP EM, Australian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM), and the College of Emergency Nursing Australia (CENA). The week will remind all emergency staff and their colleagues to take time to self-renew and make a conscious effort to become more healthy, to avoid burning out during the year.

Friday, 5 April – Day Focus: Self-Care and Mindfulness

Activity: TREAT ‘Rest and Recovery’ session

Location and Time: ED Meeting Room – 2.00 pm – 2.45 pm

 

Monday, 8 April – Day Focus: Kindness

Coordinated by the Quality and Service Improvement Department, Northern Health.

Activity: Patient Experience Play (HUSH) ‘Do you know me?’

The Hush foundation are renowned for their focus on patient experience and one of the overarching principles is Kindness.

Location and Time: Lecture Theatre 1 and 2, NCHER – 2.00 pm – 3.30 pm

 

Tuesday, 9 April – Day Focus: Nutrition and Exercise

Fruit platters and sandwiches available for ED staff in the tea room (with a focus on Healthy Choices) from 9.00 am – 11.00 am

Activity: Exercise session (facilitated by the ED Allied Health Physiotherapy team)

Location and Time: ED Meeting Room, 2.00 pm – 2.45 pm

 

Wednesday, 10 April – Day Focus: Reward and Recognition

Today, we say thank you to our staff for their hard work and commitment. This will also acknowledge staff that have championed wellbeing work in the area.

Activity: Award ceremony

Thursday, 11 April – Day Focus: Staff Engagement – a systems level approach to wellbeing

Staff Forum: ED Meeting Room, 2.00 pm – all staff invited to attend and participate in an interactive session around feedback and areas for future development.

Activity 1: Delta Dogs Visit

Location and Time: ED, 10.00 am – 11.30 am

Activity 2: Massages, 10 minute seated massage for staff

Location and Time: ED Meeting Room, 11.30 am – 3.30 pm
