Broadmeadows Surgical Centre Turns One

August 10, 2018

On Wednesday, 27 June, Northern Health’s Broadmeadows Surgical Centre reached its first birthday – 12 months after their first operation in the new complex, staff celebrated by spreading streamers and giving out lolly bags throughout the week.

While Broadmeadows Hospital was officially opened on 29 August 2017, the Broadmeadows Surgical Centre had already started servicing the local community by late June.

The official opening and renaming of Broadmeadows Health Service to Broadmeadows Hospital is an important indication of the changing and expanding services provided at the Northern Health campus.

The Surgical Centre upgrade was part of a $17.3M State Government funded redevelopment of the site which doubled the number of theatres, with four available on-site and created a brand-new recovery space as part of the state-of-the-art Surgical Centre.

In twelve months the Surgical Centre has performed over 5,600 surgical and endoscopic procedures and Broadmeadows Hospital has received over 16,000 patient admissions.

The new facilities have made a world of difference not only for local patients, but for staff at the hospital too. Staff at Broadmeadows are passionate about their work and proud to

Having a local hospital for the community of Broadmeadows and its surrounds means more people can receive the care that they need, closer to home and in a timely manner.
