Announcement: 16 December 2016

The Northern Health Human Research Ethics Committee (NH HREC) and the Low & Negligible Risk Ethics Committee (NH LNREC) have been disbanded.

Projects approved by the NH HREC & NH LNREC will be transferred to Austin Health HREC who will continue to manage the ethical approval of these projects.

For future research projects ethical approval can be received by applying to Austin Health HREC or via the National Mutual Acceptance scheme (multi-site accredited HRECs). Research Governance approval is also required prior to implementation of research projects at Northern Health.

The Northern Health Office of Research & Ethics will work closely with Austin Health Office for Research to ensure a smooth transition and researchers and sponsors who are affected by the transition have recently been contacted and provided with further information.

Quality Improvement (QI) and Audits that require an ethical review will continue to be reviewed at Northern Health, except where these projects are deemed to require a low/high risk ethical review. A new guideline on reviewing QI & Audits is currently being drafted and will be communicated to staff in early 2017.
