Our graduate programs are designed to support nurses and midwives as they transition from student to registered practitioner. These structured, clinically-focused programs provide opportunities to consolidate knowledge, apply theory in practice, and build both professional and clinical skills.

Overview

The Northern Health Enrolled Nurse Graduate Program will facilitate your transition to practice by providing you with opportunities to consolidate your skills and knowledge, integrate theory to practice and further develop your professional and clinical skills through a structured, clinically-focused program.

Aims

The program is a 12-month supported employment model in which successful applicants will be employed on a part time basis (0.8EFT) within the Northern Hospital, Broadmeadows Hospital or Bundoora Centre.

We endeavor to ensure that Graduates get as many of their placement preferences as possible over the course of their initial two years. These are carefully allocated to provide each graduate with the best possible opportunity to consolidate their skills.

Overview

North Metro and Mitchell Local Health Service Network (LHSN) is offering 12-month collaborative graduate nurse and midwife programs with rotations across two network organisations.

These programs include;

  • Seymour/Metro Graduate Nurse Program
    Six-month rotation at Seymour Health and six-month rotation at either Austin Health or Northern Health.
  • Seymour/Northern Health Aged Care Graduate Nurse Program
    Six-month rotation at Seymour Health and six-month rotation at Northern Health.
  • Mercy/Northern Health Midwifery Graduate Program
    Not listed as a standalone program, but offered as a rotation via Expression of Interest as part of both the Northern Health and Mercy Graduate Midwifery Programs.

Aims

Collaborative programs provide an excellent opportunity to build strong clinical skills, gain exposure to diverse care settings, and develop expertise in the chosen field within supportive learning environments. 

Details

The program includes 6 months with Northern Health at the Bundoora Centre metropolitan facility, followed by 6 months in Seymour at Barrabill House, providing participants with a diverse and comprehensive experience in aged care.

Both Northern Health and Seymour Health provide: 

  • Supernumerary time to support transition into practice 
  • Graduate-specific study days 
  • Tailored clinical support during each rotation 
  • Guidance from experienced clinicians specialising in aged care 

Subsidised accommodation is available during the Seymour rotation, supporting graduates undertaking the rural component of the program.

  • Tailored clinical support during each rotation 
  • Guidance from experienced clinicians in acute and specialty care 

Subsidised accommodation is available during the Seymour rotation, supporting graduates undertaking the rural component of the program.

Graduates will gain a broad exposure to complex maternity care and advanced neonatal care, working with women from a wide catchment and demographic. 

Both Northern Health and Mercy Health provide:

  • Graduate-specific study days 
  • Tailored clinical support during each rotation 
  • Guidance from experienced clinicians in maternity services and specialty care

  • At least 1 must be from an acute setting

  • At least 1 must be from a Mental Health or an acute setting if one has not had a mental health placement as yet

You will be requested by PMCV to complete a video interview via the Allocations and Placement Service (APS) website. You may also be invited to attend an interview for the GNP โ€“ Kilmore & GNP โ€“ Mental Health streams.
