Northern Health’s Occupational Therapy (OT) services provide assessment, treatment, and support for individuals experiencing challenges with daily activities due to illness, injury, or disability. Our goal is to help people live more independently, safely and comfortably in their homes and communities.
Our Occupational Therapy services cater to individuals across the life span and those who are experiencing health conditions such as neurological disorders, musculoskeletal issues, developmental conditions, mental health conditions and a range of other health challenges.
We offer:
- Initial assessments to identify challenges in performing everyday tasks
- Personalized treatment plans that may involve training, individualised therapy, modifications to the home or work environment, and the use of adaptive equipment
- Therapeutic interventions to enhance physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning
- Education and support for patients and their families to promote independence and improve quality of life
- Collaboration with other health professionals to ensure holistic care.
What to expect from the service?
Occupational Therapy provides care to a large range of services and programs across Northern Hospital Epping (NHE), Broadmeadows Hospital (BH), Bundoora Centre (BC), Craigieburn Community Hospital (CCH), Mernda Community Hospital (MCH), Kilmore District Hospital (KDH) and Mental Health Sites.
Acute inpatients at Northern Hospital Epping and Broadmeadows Hospital: providing care to patients accessing the Emergency Department, and across inpatient units including palliative care, renal, medicine, surgical and neurological; and across the continuum from neonates to aged care.
Subacute inpatients at Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre and Kilmore District Hospital: Care in these settings might include GEM (Geriatric Evaluation and Management), GEM at home and inpatient rehab.
Ambulatory and community programs at Northern Hospital Epping Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Community Hospital and Mernda Community Hospital: OT’s provide care in a range of settings from acute specialist clinics to community therapy programs.
In mental health, occupational Therapists work in a range of roles in Inpatient and Community mental health teams and in the Community Care Units (CCU) and Preventions and Recovery Care Services (PARCs)
Our OT team is dedicated to helping individuals regain independence and improve their overall well-being, focusing on functional goals that matter most to them.
