Symptom Urgent Review Clinic (SURC)


The Symptom Urgent Review Clinic (SURC) is a free service for any cancer patient who is experiencing side effects from cancer treatment at Northern Health.

The Symptom Urgent Review Clinic is located in the portable outside Entrance 5 Northern Hospital Epping and is staffed by highly trained nurses experienced in cancer care. Patients can call for an appointment.

SURC is a free service for patients who are experiencing side effects from cancer treatment. SURC recognises and manages symptoms earlier and reduces presentations to ED and hospital admissions, and provides patient education and support. SURC works with VVED and ED to provide support for patients and carers after hours.


What to expect from the service?

When you are a cancer patient and are suffering from the side effects of your treatment you can get help from the Symptom Urgent Review Clinic (SURC). This is a free service for Northern Health patients. Patients can call to organise an appointment. You will be looked after by specialist nurse who will assess you, help answer your questions, give you information and work with you to make you feel better. Because of this help you may not need to go to the emergency department or be admitted. Our opening hours are below but if you need treatment when we are closed you can call the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) or present to the Northern Hospital Epping Emergency Department (ED).


The Symptom Urgent Review Clinic (SURC) is a free service for any cancer patient who is experiencing side effects from undergoing systemic (chemotherapy or immunotherapy) treatment at Northern Health. SURC is lead by experienced nurses.
