Spasticity Clinic


Spasticity Clinic is a multidisciplinary clinic involving Rehabilitation Consultant, Physiotherapist, and Occupational Therapist. Spasticity can affect a personโ€™s upper or lower limbs and this may impact on their functional ability, hygiene, ease of dressing, or cause pain.

Clients undergo a comprehensive assessment and recommendations are made regarding the management of spasticity. Where clinically indicated, botulinum toxin may be injected into the upper and or lower limbs to assist with achieving therapy goals.

  • Increased tone in upper and or lower limbs affecting function
  • Where carer is unable to maintain hand hygiene due to tone increasing carer burden
  • Pain upper limb or lower limb
  • Increased difficulty with splint regime
  • Lives in Northern Health Community Therapy Services catchment

What to expect from the service?

You will be assessed by a Rehabiliation Consultant, Physiotherapist and Occupational therapist to review if Botulimum toxin will reduce the tone in your upper and or lower limbs to improve your ability to manage your day to day tasks and pain.


Referral must be from GP or Consultant/Specialist. Referral must include:

  • Past medical history including Psychiatric history.
  • Current presenting issues
  • List of current medications.
  • Results of all relevant current pathology and radiology
  • Referring Doctorโ€™s provider number
