Screening Services Cancer


Northern Healthโ€™s Comprehensive Cancer Care Services work together with our community to provide screening and cancer care. We screen and treat many types of cancers and provide whole of journey holistic, culturally appropriate and supportive care for patients, their carers and families at Northern Health hospitals and in the community.

Screening services are available in the following cancer streams:

What to expect from the service?

Welcome to Northern Health Cancer and Speciality Services. We provide screening for cancer patients managed in NH cancer specialty clinics.

We also provide screening services for patients referred to the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP) (LINK) who require further assessment of their CT diagnosed lung nodule which may or may not be a lung cancer.

We know when your doctor refers you that you and your family are anxious and worried. Our staff support you through your screening journey. We believe in a holistic, patient centric approach where Wellness supports your whole journey. Information specific to your cancer and treatment plan will be provided to you by your treating doctor but is also

available through the Library and Information Service (Link for patients to be developed).

At Northern Health Comprehensive Cancer Care is provided by specialist doctors, nurses and allied health. We provide screening for cancer patients managed in NH cancer specialty clinics.

We also provide screening services for patients referred to the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP) (LINK) who require further assessment of their CT diagnosed lung nodule which may or may not be a lung cancer.

The major tumour streams managed by Medical Oncology at Northern Health are:

  • Breast; (LINK current)
  • Colorectal; (LINK current)
  • Endocrine; (LINK current)
  • Haematology including lymphoma, leukaemia(LINK current)
  • Hepatobiliary (LINK current) including liver, pancreatic and cholangiocarcinoma;
  • Lung (link to Lung Mass Clinic)
  • Lung (link Lung Nodule/Screening Clinic to be developed)
  • Skin and Melanoma (Dermatology LINK; Plastic Surgery LINK)
  • Upper Gastrointestinal including oesophageal, gastric (LINK current);
  • Urology/Genitourinary (LINK current) including prostate, bladder and kidney;
  • Where Northern provides partnered management, we work with other health services ie   gynaecological, ENT, Head and Neck, Sarcomas, rare cancers. We support referrals if the referring doctor is uncertain where to refer the patient. We will refer patients to the appropriate centre and keep you informed
