The Rehabilitation Medical clinic is led by a doctor called a Rehabilitation Physician. The physician follows-up patients who have been discharged from the rehabilitation ward within Northern Health to make sure that they are continuing to recover. Your GP r other medical specialists may be able to refer you to this clinic, but eligibility is determined on a case by case basis.
The types of clients seen with in this clinic would present with:
- Neurological conditions such as stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury, peripheral neuropathies
- Complex orthopaedic and/ or rehabilitation medical needs
The physician’s areas of expertise include spasticity, management of bowel and bladder and pain issues. Some advice can also be provided on managing thinking and behavioural changes following acquired brain injury.
Our goals are to optimise a person’s function including mobility, self-care, and improve participation by returning to leisure activity, returning to work and driving.
What to expect from the service?
The physician will talk to you about your health issues, recovery and may undertake a physical examination. He or she will then develop a plan with you to improve things that are important to you such as your mobility, self-care, and participation in leisure activities, work or driving.
