Paediatric Hospital In The Home program ( PHITH)


The Northern Health Paediatic Hospital-in-the-Home program allows your child to be cared for at home by Northern health medical, nursing and allied health staff. By your child being in this program they can complete their treatment at home allowing them to be in an environment they feel safe and secure in.

Our catchment area (depending on availability and scope):

  • North as far as Seymour
  • South as far as Coburg
  • East as far as Eltham/ Hurstbridge
  • West as far as Romsey

What to expect from the service?

8 bed program Dedicated Paediatric nurse and Drs overseeing their care 7 day per week 2 shifts per day โ€“ 0700 โ€“ 1530 and 1300 โ€“ 2130 On call phone support from 2130 โ€“ 0700 by simply calling the hospital number and requesting to speak to HITH.

Examples of care provided:

  • intravenous antibiotics
  • wound dressings and eczema care
  • sleep and overnight oximetry studies
  • allied health services (physiotherapy, nutrition, speech pathology, occupational therapy)

Referral process

  • Referral sent to email HITHReferrals@nh.org.au or phone HITH Flow Liaison on 84058938 to discuss referral
  • Child must live in HITH catchment area
  • Parent needs to consent to have child in the Paed HITH program
  • Safe Home Visiting check must be completed and the home must be deemed safe before patient will be accepted
