What to expect from the service?

Northern Health Oncology and Medical Day Unit supports:

  • Cancer and haematology patients, having treatments in the outpatient setting. In our Day Unit, we give patients cancer medications. We can also give treatments at home through our NOAH@Home service. Through our SURC service we help patients manage the symptoms that can happen with cancer drug.
  • Medical patients having medical treatments such as immunotherapies and infusions in the day unit. The service works with Medical Specialist Nurses and specialist doctors to help patients manage the symptoms that can happen with drug treatments.

We also provide you with information written and videos, so that you understand what to expect when you start your treatment with us. We work with your General Practitioner to make sure that you can get help from a doctor you knows you well.

To make sure you can get help after hours we work with the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) and the Northern Health Emergency Department.

The Oncology and Medical Day Unit supports patients undergoing cancer treatments and patients undergoing some medical treatments. General Practitioners should refer patients to the appropriate specialty – Oncology, Haematology or other specialities such as Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Dermatology etc – for investigation and diagnosis of their patientโ€™s symptoms. The above services are then used by the relevant specialists to support patients in their treatment journey.
