Kilmore Pregnancy Care Clinics (Antenatal)


At Kilmore Hospital, we are referred to as a Low Risk Maternity Service, providing maternity services to women who experience an uncomplicated pregnancy and birth without the need of ongoing specialist care in the Mitchell Shire region.

At Kilmore Hospital we offer the following:

  • Antenatal Clinic located in: Kilmore, Seymour and Telehealth.
  • Antenatal birthing classes with experienced Midwife ($80 out of pocket cost).
  • Access to Dietician and Social Worker.
  • Pregnancy Assessment Unit 24/7.
  • Labour & Birthing (Emergency LUSCS 24/7 and Epidurals available 24/7).
  • MAC (Maternal Assisted Caesarean) is offered in consultation with our obstetricians.
  • Domiciliary care provides extended midwifery support and care in your own home when you are discharged from hospital.
  • Shared care: we offer shared care so you can continue to see your own GP/doctor during your pregnancy as well as our midwives/obstetricians.

What to expect from the service?

At Kilmore Hospital we use the traffic light system to care for you and your baby.

Green pathway

A green pathway at Kilmore Hospital means your pregnancy is progressing normally, we work together to monitor you and your babyโ€™s health.

Examples of green pathway include:

  • You are aged between 17-43 years of age
  • You have no current medical concerns
  • Your BMI is less than 30 at booking in appointment
  • You are only giving birth to one child.

Amber pathway

Amber pathway means that we have identified some concerns which we need to monitor a little closer throughout your pregnancy.

Examples of amber pathway include:

  • Your BMI is 30+ at booking in appointment
  • You are aged <17 years old or 39 years and 11 months โ€“ 43 years old
  • You have gestational diabetes which is diet controlled
  • You have high blood pressure
  • You have a low lying placenta
  • You do not attend your regular appointments.

Red pathway

To ensure a safe pregnancy and birth for you and your baby, your care will be transferred to a tertiary hospital for the duration of your care.

Examples of red pathway include:

  • VBACS (Vaginal birth after caesarean).
  • Your BMI is equal to our greater then 40
  • You are giving birth to more than one baby
  • You are having your 4th caesarean sectionย 
  • You are 43 years or older
  • You have had 5 or more previous births
  • Previous or severe pre-eclampsia
  • You have diabetes that requires insulin
  • Recent or recurrent drug use

To provide care in the most effective way can we please have referrals made by 12-14 weeks gestation.

Tests required to be ordered GP prior to booking in with Kilmore Antenatal Clinic:

All antenatal screening as listed below should be completed by the GP and available prior to booking in appointment any incomplete referrals will now be declined until all information is supplied.

In the referral please provide any relevant information/specialist reports from surgeries and any specialist reviews
