What is the Service?

The Northern Hospital’s Intensive Care Department consists of eighteen beds and provides intensive care services to a diverse case-mix of around 1,300 patients each year by qualified intensive care nurses and medical intensive care specialists, and also provides outreach services to the hospital through the ICU liaison nurse and medical emergency team.

What can I expect from the service?

The ICU department provides around the clock care to critically ill people and therefore provides access for family and friends to visit and call 24 hours a day.

Our Team

As well as medical and nursing staff the Intensive Care Department’s multidisciplinary team is made up of a variety of health care professionals including physiotherapists, pharmacists, counsellors, ward clerks and patient service assistants.

Service Overview

The Northern Hospital’s Intensive Care Department consists of eighteen beds and provides intensive care services to a diverse case-mix of around 1,300 patients each year by qualified intensive care nurses and medical intensive care specialists, and also provides outreach services to the hospital through the ICU liaison nurse and medical emergency team. We provide intensive care services for patients requiring advanced respiratory support including non-invasive and invasive ventilation, for patient’s requiring renal replacement therapy with haemofiltration, haemodynamically unstable patients requiring invasive cardiac monitoring and support devices, post-operative care and management and many other services.
