Youth function (YF) supports young people aged 16-25years presenting with onset of any mental health concerns, and provide targeted early interventions to consumers, their families and other formal and informal supports. Treatment and support is informed by clinical guidelines and current research, and is embedded within the wider Hotham Street Clinic, and hours of operation is usual clinic hours 9am โ 4:50pm. If after hours support is indicated, this is provided via NAMHS adult ACIS.ย ย
What to expect from the service?
The YF works within a multidisciplinary team, where you will have contact with a key clinician and treating doctors. You will have access to clinicians with a range of skills and expertise, who can provide different support options.
We will work with you to explore both your mental health and overall wellbeing needs, and develop a support plan to assist you in developing and meeting your recovery goals. This can include diagnostic clarification; medication options; development of understanding of experiences; and specific support tailored for you.
We will work collaboratively with you and your key supports, which may include family or friends, GP, psychologist, NDIS, school or any other people important to you.

The Youth Function (YF) enables provision of early intervention mental health services targeted to the 16-25 year age group thereby reducing the prevalence and impact or risk of mental illness on young people, their families, carers and the wider community. YF is a function within the Hotham Street community team and is specifically designed and modelled to deliver youth specific clinical mental health services based on current research and clinical guidelines in the field. The YF has a multidisciplinary staffing profile, including clinicians with a range of skills and expertise in delivering best practice interventions as documented in clinical guidelines.โฏ

Inclusion Criteria:
As a public mental health service, our services are for people with significant level of disturbance, psycho social need or concern regarding risk to themselves or others as a result of mental illness. YF will also consider consumers who present as being ultra-high risk for developing a psychotic disorder.โฏ Common presentations may include psychosis, mood disorders, anxiety, eating disorders, personality disorders, PTSD, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Referrals are received through various sources, including Centralised Triage; ACIS; IPU and from clinic intake. Collaborative practice is a main focus of support, with both formal and informal supports. Common formal supports involved include YSAS, Youth Projects, local schools, Northland Youth Hub, EIPSRS, Youth Justice and GPs.
