Virtual Specialist Consults (VSC)


Virtual Specialist Consults (VSC) is an alternative to specialist clinic referrals. This statewide service offers timely specialist expertise for complex patients in the community.

Virtual Specialist Consults (VSC) is an alternative toย outpatientย referrals. VSC can support complex patients in the community to strengthen continuity of care and help ease pressure on specialist clinic departments across Victoria.

Available for all Victorians, the VSC service is supported by the Department of Health and delivered by Northern Health.


Specialist consults available through VSC

VSC offers the following consult types:

  • Case Conferencesย that involve the referring clinician, a VSC specialist, and an additional healthcare provider
  • Co-consultsย that involve the referring clinician, patient, and VSC specialist.
  • Direct Patient Consultsย that involve the patient and VSC specialist only (only available to regional and remote health services in Victoria).
