This week, 19 – 25 September, Northern Health celebrates World Pharmacy Week, recognising the vital contribution pharmacists and pharmacy staff make to safe, effective and patient-centred care. Yesterday, Northern Health Pharmacy staff gathered at the Lecture Theatre 1 at Northern Hospital Epping to mark the occasion and celebrate the outstanding contributions of colleagues through the annual Northern Health Pharmacy Awards.
World Pharmacists Day, 25 September, is an opportunity to acknowledge the important role pharmacists play in delivering safe, effective and patient-centred care. Across Northern Health, pharmacy staff contribute to every stage of the patient journey through clinical care, medication safety, education, research, quality improvement, operational services and innovation.
Their expertise, dedication and commitment play an important role in achieving positive outcomes for our patients and community.
As part of yesterday’s celebrations, six staff members were recognised for their achievements and contributions to pharmacy services.
Hirusha Kananke received the Early Career Award in recognition of his exceptional growth during his first year of practice, as well as his commitment to clinical care, research and professional development.
Marlene Grimes-Feddern was named Resident of the Year for her achievements in clinical practice, medication safety, quality improvement and innovation, demonstrating a strong commitment to improving patient care.
Brittney Young received the Clinical Excellence Award for her leadership in advancing Emergency Department pharmacy services, expanding the role of pharmacists, driving service improvements and supporting the development of the emergency pharmacy workforce.
Jessica Domzalski was awarded the Impact and Innovation Award for leading the expansion of Transitions of Care and Complex Care pharmacy services, helping to improve continuity of care and post-discharge support for vulnerable patients.
Lauren Beard received the Leadership Award for her supportive and effective leadership, staff development initiatives and contributions to significant clinical and service improvement projects.
Benjamin Johnson was awarded the Christine Herd Northern Health Values Award for consistently demonstrating the values of Safe, Kind and Together through his collaborative, patient-centred approach and commitment to improving pharmacy services.
