Meet Tameeka Robertson, Allied Health Education Lead and Staff Peer Supporter.
Q: Letโs start with your coffee order?
Almond milk chai latte.
Q: Why did you choose to become a peer supporter?
My work as an Allied Health Educator showed me how powerful genuine connection and psychological safety are in supporting mental health and wellbeing. While working closely with allied health staff, particularly new graduate clinicians, I saw how trust and nonโjudgemental support allows people to share their struggles and feel less alone. This experience led me to want to use my strengths more directly in a peer role, where shared experience, empathy, and connection matter.
Q: What makes a good peer supporter?
I believe a good peer supporter is someone who genuinely cares, listens empathetically and without judgment, and creates a safe and supportive environment where others feel heard, valued, and understood.
Q: Whatโs one piece of wellbeing advice you can give to staff?
Be kind to yourself. We show compassion and understanding to others but sometimes forget to extend the same kindness to ourselves. Even setting aside 10 minutes each day to do something that helps you recharge, whether thatโs taking a walk, reading, reflecting, enjoying a coffee, or simply taking a quiet moment for yourself, can make a significant difference to your wellbeing. Remember, looking after yourself is not selfish; itโs essential.
Q: How do you like to relax after work?
As a busy mum of three school-aged children, life doesnโt slow down much after work, and I often step straight into my role as โMumโs Taxiโ. To unwind, I make a conscious effort to prioritise exercise, whether thatโs playing netball or walking laps while my children train. Itโs my way of clearing my mind and recharging. I also love ending the day with a cup of peppermint tea and getting stuck into a good Netflix series.
Q: What is something people would be most surprised to know about you?
People are often surprised to learn that Iโm a really fussy eater and actually donโt like most vegetables! As much as I know theyโre good for me, Iโve never been much of a fan.
