A case study report is an article that describes a particular patientโ€™s diagnosis and treatment plan. Most of the cases chosen for published medical case studies are of unusual diagnoses, or include complications in treatment. A case study report is written in a specific format and can be submitted to peer-reviewed journals.

Case Reports are not considered research, given no hypothesis is tested. However, given the requirement to adequately consent participants using a standardized form, and the need for participants to be aware of and access a complaints mechanism where required, case reports must be registered with the Northern Health Research Development and Governance Unit.

Please complete the Case Report Consent and Registration Form- which can be found under โ€œLibrary of Resourcesโ€ and send toย ResearchDGU@nh.org.au

For a useful guide see BMJ guide for writing Case reports.
