Adult Continence


Northern Health offers a Continence Service for adults requiring assessment and management for bladder and or bowel dysfunction.

Our Northern Health Continence service has provided Continence Nursing Services to the community for over 30 years. We provide home visits and centre based appointments from three Northern Health campuses.


What to expect from the service?

Our Continence Nurses are experienced clinicians specialising in the management and needs relating to continence. Nurses will provide advice and support for adults experiencing continence issues, including:

  • Comprehensive continence assessment and management
  • Client and carer education and support in relation to continence
  • Bladder retraining, bowel regulation programs and toileting programs
  • Catheter education and other drainage equipment
  • Prescription of aids and equipment
  • Skin Care management

Information

Appointments may also be delivered virtually through the Victorian Virtual Specialist Consult (VVSC) service.

You do not need a Doctor’s referral for this clinic.

Continence nursing and physiotherapy services are available at Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre and Craigieburn Centre.

Medical intervention provided by a Geriatrician specialising in continence management is only available at Bundoora Centre.

Consumers are able to self-refer to the Continence Service without a GP referral letter. For referrals or enquiries regarding this service please contact the Community Access Service team
