
Specialist Clinics
Appointments within Northern Specialist Clinics occur Monday – Friday across the following:
Northern Health Specialist Clinics provide appointments in person, by video, and by telephone.
Your clinician will determine the most appropriate mode for your appointment.
- Attend the hospital location listed on your letter/SMS.
- Sudden onset of vomiting and diarrhoea
- Do not attend if you have any of the following symptoms:
- Flu like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat)
- A generalised, unexplained rash
If unwell, please change to video/telephone or reschedule your appointment (see Manage your appointment below).
Your clinician will call you:
8:30am–12:30pm for a morning appointment, or
1:00pm–5:00pm for an afternoon appointment.
The number may display as ‘unknown number’. If you miss our call(s), contact the number on your letter/SMS to reschedule.

Please note we may not be able to support this due to your clinical condition.
Please see your GP, they can send a new referral to Specialist Clinics. A Northern Health clinician will review it to see if an earlier appointment is needed.
Waiting times for Specialist Clinics appointments can vary between services. Some clinics have high demand and wait times can be longer than expected.
Your waiting time will be dependent on your clinical need. Those with a high clinical need will be prioritised.
We’ll send your appointment details by SMS, email and/or letter. Most clinics also send an SMS reminder in the week before your appointment. In some cases, we will call you if your appointment is booked within 24 hours of your appointment.
If you can’t attend, it is important you tell us so we can give it to another person waiting.

- With < 24 hours’ notice, you may be recorded as did not attend (DNA).
- Two consecutive DNAs without adequate reason or notice may result in discharge and no further appointments.

If you need an interpreter, ask your GP to note this clearly in the referral. Interpreter services can be arranged for your appointment. by

You may need to contact us for a number of reasons such as needing a pathology slip or cancelling an appointment.
For all enquiries contact us:
- Appointment letter(s)
- Relevant X-rays, scans, ultrasounds, lab results or reports
- A list of current medicines (or the boxes), including over-the-counter, herbal and vitamins
- Adverse drug alert card (if you have one)
- Any aids you require (glasses, hearing aids, walking aid)
- Medicare or veterans’ card
- Health Care/concession card (if applicable)
- TAC/WorkCover claim number (if relevant)
- A list of questions you have for your specialist
- Any additional items requested in your letter
For paediatric patients, the primary caregiver (parent or legal guardian) must attend
