Northern Health Specialist Clinics follow state-wide policies to prioritise referrals. This ensures patients with the highest clinical needs are seen first.

To access Specialists Clinics, you will need a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) or another healthcare professional, sent to Northern Health.

  • We will send you and your GP a letter to let you know that we have got your referral.
  • A clinician will look at your referral to check that all the information needed is included and to decide when you need an appointment based on your clinical need.
  • You and your GP will be told the result of this assessment.
  • If your referral is accepted, you and your GP will get:
    • an appointment via SMS, email or letter, or
    • an SMS, email or letter saying you have been put on the planned appointment list for a future date.
  • We aim to see urgent referrals within 30 days.
  • If more information is needed, we will contact your GP.
  • You will be told of the final outcome by SMS, email, or letter.
