The Northern Health Plastic & Hand Surgery team is actively involved in Research and Teaching at all levels.
All members of the team are involved with the teaching curriculum of the University of Melbourne and Latrobe University at both a pre-clinical and clinical levels. They conduct lectures, tutorials and provide ward and clinic based teaching to medical, nursing and Allied Health students.

Northern Health has one accredited training post for the training of future plastic surgeons (under the auspices of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons)
Current research
Northern Health Plastic, Hand and Maxillofacial Surgery is actively involved in several research projects, including research at medical school (MDRP Research Projects).
In addition, many clinical research projects are supervised by consultants aiming publications in medical journals and presentation in conferences and meetings.
Audits and Quality & Safety activities are also good sources of projects.
Future plans include basic science research as well as public health in the other end of the spectrum.
