2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) was first diagnosed in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China in December 2019.

China and the international community have instituted a number of measures to try and limit its spread, and the risk to the general public in Australia remains very low.  To date there has been 15 cases, 4 of which are in Victoria.

Northern Health has established a working group, led by Infectious Diseases, to closely monitor this evolving situation, and is meeting daily at present to ensure direct and accurate responses are put in place.

Northern Hospital has set in place extensive safeguards to manage any patient with viral infections- including the recent coronavirus.

If you are concerned that you are at risk of carrying coronavirus due to recent travel, please contact the Department of Health and Human Services novel coronavirus hotline on 1800 675 398 before attending a hospital emergency department or appointment.
