Unit C  

Unit C is a 32 bed Surgical Unit, specialising in Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery / Breast Surgery. 

Unit C utilise the OARS (Orthopaedic and Aged Care Rehabilitation Service) team in providing a coordinated treatment plan for complex orthopaedic patients, the Breast Care Nurse for breast surgery patients, and also have many staff qualified in Orthopaedics and/or Plastics to assist in your learning and development.

Patient mix on Unit C is primarily surgical, catering for patients requiring elective or emergency procedures.  These include orthopaedic procedures (hip surgery, knee replacement, fracture management), plastic and reconstructive surgery (including many household and industrial accidents), breast surgery (biopsy, lumpectomy, mastectomy) and occasionally also general surgery.

There are many skills to be developed on Unit C including pre and post operative care, pain management, intravenous fluid and antibiotic administration, vascular observations, wound care (including skin grafts and VAC – Vacuum Assisted Closure – dressings), not to mention time management, communication and documentation.

You can utilise the hospital’s free continuing education program to attend Wound Management Study Days, Advanced Wound Management Study Day and many inservices to keep you up-to-date with the latest products available.

If you are interested in further education, Post Graduate Courses are available in Plastics and Orthopaedics to suitable applicants.
