Unit B

Unit B is a 32 bed Acute Medical Unit with Acute Stroke Services and Renal Dialysis.  The ward layout and specialist outdoor area provide a safe environment for patients with dementia to stroll, garden or sit.

The Acute Stroke Service streamlines admission and treatment for patients newly diagnosed with Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA).  This has been shown to decrease hospital length of stay and improve patient outcomes, through the multi-disciplinary approach to treatment.

The various types of Medical conditions being cared for on Unit B include CVA, Unstable Angina, Acute Myocardial Infarct (often following Critical Care admission), Airway Disease (including Exacerbation of this), Haematemesis and Malena, Liver Failure, Acute and Chronic Renal Failure and Debility.

There are many skills to be gained on Unit B such as time management, documentation, patient assessment, and communication, as well as clinical skills including tracheostomy care, nasogastric and PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) management, wound care, and medication management – just to mention a few!

Take advantage of free in-hospital education such as the Heart Failure Study Day, Diabetes Short Course and Transcultural Nursing Study Day.
