Babies born at The Northern Hospital in need of a little extra care will benefit from the Annual Fundraising Dinner and Auction, to be held on Saturday, 25 July, 2009.
Northern Health’s General Manager- Acute Services, Maree Cuddihy, said that funds raised from this year’s event would support the Special Care Nursery in The Northern Hospital’s Maternity Department.
“2009 has been quite challenging for many families in Melbourne’s north. Northern Health staff have treated patients affected by the devastating Black Saturday bushfires and most recently helped many families suffering from the H1N1 Swine Flu,” Ms Cuddihy said.
“Northern Health plays a vital role in creating a healthier northern community and many of our patients are children and their families. With this in mind, the theme for this year’s dinner and auction is ‘nurturing our future’.
“Money raised at this year’s dinner will go towards an incubator to help keep babies warm when they are first born or for sick babies who require constant observation; a resuscitator for babies who require emergency care at birth; a phototherapy unit for treatment of jaundiced babies; and a CTG monitor to observe the babies’ movements and heartbeats before birth.
“Earlier this month, (15 June) we saw our 2000th baby born during the 08/09 financial year which is the first time we’ve seen this many babies born at The Northern Hospital in a 12 month period.
“The Northern Hospital is seeing more and more babies born each year in its Maternity Department, including those with special care needs. This equipment will help us provide babies with the best level of care.
“The Northern Hospital’s Annual Dinner and Auction is a celebration for staff and the community, and an opportunity for people to show their support for the Hospital,” Ms Cuddihy, said.
“Not only will the event help to raise funds for the Special Care Nursery, but it’s a fun-filled night. Guests will enjoy a Greek themed meal, lot of dancing and an opportunity to bid for something special at the auction,” Ms Cuddihy said.
The dinner will be held at Plenty Ranges Arts & Convention Centre, Ferres Boulevard, South Morang, on Saturday July 25 at 7pm.
