Rehabilitation Unit
 The Broadmeadows Health Service (BHS) Rehabilitation Inpatient Unit provides a comprehensive, high quality inpatient rehabilitation service for adults experiencing disability following illness or injury.
The Unit has a particular focus on the management of neurological and orthopaedic conditions.
The primary aim of the Unit is to return the patient to the community at their optimum level and continue appropriate therapy.
Referrals are processed via the Intake Unit at BHS. In some instances, patients may need to be assessed by a Rehabilitation Doctor to determine their ability to receive rehabilitation therapy.
Upon admission to the Rehabilitation Unit, working closely with you, the patient, a total rehabilitation care plan is developed and implemented by the Rehabilitation Team. This plan is reviewed regularly to ensure that it continues to meet the patient's needs. Rehabilitation Team ensures that each patient leaves the program with appropriate follow-up arrangements. These arrangements may include community-based rehabilitation, for example, Community Therapy Services or additional support services in the home. The Rehabilitation Team includes:
- Rehabilitation Specialist
- Medical Staff Nurses
- Occupational Therapists
- Physiotherapists
- Speech pathologists
- Social Workers
- Dietitian
- Neuropsychologist
- Pharmacist
- Royal District Nursing Service
- Liaison Nurse
- Access to Interpreting Services
To ensure patient comfort, the unit is furnished with:
- Modern, spacious single and double rooms with full ensuite facilities
- A dining room and several lounge areas
- Access to a purpose-built hydrotherapy pool
- Access to on-campus services such as X-ray and optometry
- Cafe
- TVs for rental
- A visiting hairdresser
- Free car parking for visitors
We encourage family and friends to visit their loved ones, however as therapy times are scheduled between 8:30am and 4:00pm, you may be asked to wait if the patient is receiving treatment. All admission enquiries and referrals should be directed to the Intake Unit as follows.
