Northern Health Going Totally Smoke Free
Smoking will no longer be allowed at Northern Health campuses from January 1, 2010.

Northern Health CEO, Greg Pullen, said the new policy will apply to all patients, staff, visitors, contractors and volunteers.

“As of Friday, January 1, 2010 smoking will not be permitted inside or outside any building, nor in any outdoor area within the boundaries of a Northern Health campus,” Mr Pullen said.

“This includes carparks, internal courtyards and any external area on health service property.

“This policy is part of Northern Health's commitment to improving the health of people in Melbourne's northern suburbs and providing a safe, healthy environment for everyone who uses or provides our services.

“We look forward to the community embracing this positive change across Northern Health,” he said.

 Stop Smoking

Northern Health’s campuses include The Northern Hospital in Epping, Broadmeadows Health Services, Bundoora Extended Care Centre, Panch Health Service in Preston and Craigieburn Health Service.

Mr Pullen said Northern Health’s Smoke Free Policy is in line with practices at many other health services around Australia and the rest of the world.

“Signage has been placed at each Northern Health campus to make staff, visitors and patients aware of this new policy,” he said.

“Most people realise the dangers associated with smoking and the risks that are also related to passive smoking.

“Northern Health is committed to providing a healthy environment for our patients and staff,” Mr Pullen said.
