MAPU is The Northern Hospital’s Medical Assessment and Planning Unit.
Newly established in 2007, MAPU is an acute medical ward of 28 beds and provides a prompt, comprehensive assessment of acute medical patients performed within the first 48 hours of their admission.
MAPU focuses on rapid and optimal assessment, early referral & intervention with allied health, priority for investigations and a multidisciplinary approach to discharge planning. The formulation and implementation of an effective management plan within the first 48 hours will provide a more coordinated and cost effective service that will facilitate improved patient flow.
Common medical conditions on MAPU include Asthma, AMI and Chest Pain, Congestive Cardiac Failure, Acute Pulmonary Oedema, Haematemesis and Malaena and Pneumonia.
