Geriatric Evaluation & Management (GEM) Unit

The Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) Unit provides a high quality aged care service for people experiencing disability following illness or injury.

The primary aim of the service is to assist our patients in returning home with an optimal level of health and independence.

To meet your needs, an individually tailored program will be developed and implemented by a multi-disciplinary team, in consultation with you and your family, and in liaison with community services.
 

If it is necessary to seek residential care, our team will provide you with the information and support you need. To assist you the program provides:

  • Comprehensive assessment and therapy programs with individual and group treatment
  • Home assessments
  • Education about medications
  • Access to the hydrotherapy pool
  • Access to a wide range of services provided by Broadmeadows Health Service including podiatry, audiology and optometry.

The facility includes:

  • Modern spacious rooms with ensuite facilities
  • Dining room and lounge areas
  • Garden access
  • Telephone access
  • Cafe Hairdresser
  • Free car parking for visitors

Our multidisciplinary team includes: Geriatrician Doctors Nurses Occupational Therapist Physiotherapist Speech Therapist Social Workers Dietician Neuropsychologist Pharmacist Royal District Nursing Service Liaison Nurse

Meal Times:

  • Breakfast 8:15am
  • Lunch 11:45am
  • Dinner 5:15pm

Visiting Hours: 11:00am - 7:00pm

Relatives and friends are always encouraged to visit, however if the patient is receiving treatment, visitors may be asked to wait.
