Frequently Asked Questions
How long will I stay?
Your length of stay at the Broadmeadows Health Service (BHS) depends on your progress and individual needs, but is usually about three weeks. Discharge planning starts within 48 hours of your admission. For patients with rehabilitation needs, some of your therapy may take place in your home with therapists attending every few days.
What is discharge planning?
Discharge planning is the process whereby members of the clinical team assess and anticipate your needs for your safe return home. This may include a visit to your home to arrange for specific equipment, or organisation support services. Not all patients, however, will return home. Our staff will assist these people in preparing for their transition. What should I expect from day to day?
The emphasis of your stay at BHS will be on assisting you to regain your independence in order to return home. Therefore, the routine on the ward is designed to reflect daily home life activities. It is usual that you will rise relatively early, shower and dress in comfortable clothing, attend therapy sessions during the day (Monday to Friday) take your meals in a separate dining area.
What if I have special needs?
BHS recognises the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of its clients. Please inform any member of the team if there is anything we can do to accommodate your needs. This may include the use of interpreters or special dietary requirements.
Do I need to pay for anything?
BHS is a public health service and therefore you will not be charged for your bed stay, meals or medication whilst you are in hospital. You will, however, need to pay for services such as TV hire, newspapers and food from the cafeteria. Other services such as equipment purchase / hire and home support services are not covered by the hospital. Members of your care team will explain your needs on an individual basis.
Please do not bring valuables such as jewellery and large amounts of cash with you. |
