Deakin University/Northern Health Clinical Partnership

The Deakin University School of Nursing and Midwifery partnership model is the first program of its kind in Australia and links the academic sector to both public and private health care organisations.

The partnership model aims to facilitate clinical multi-disciplinary research that is strategically focussed on areas of clinical importance. Each partner organisation has a joint appointment with the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Senior Research Fellow or Professoriate level.

The Deakin University - Northern Health Clinical Partnership was established in June 2007 with the appointment of Senior Research Fellow, Dr Julie Considine. Key aims of the Partnership are to provide academic, clinical and professional leadership, build research capacity and actively engage in integration of evidence into clinical practice.

The research activities of the Deakin University - Northern Health Clinical Partnership are organised into two major research streams: Clinical Risk Management and Workforce Development & Service Delivery Models. Through this partnership, Northern Health hosts one of Australia’s strongest nursing research programs that now has strong inter-professional collaborations both nationally and internationally. Our work is well recognised across multiple sectors of healthcare and this recognition continues to grow with publications in the international research literature and presentations at key national and international conferences .
