Day Procedure Unit/Endoscopy Suite

Day Procedure Unit / Endoscopy Suite is a 10 week Elective Rotation for Graduate Nurses, and can be paired up with a rotation through the Operating Suite also.

Day Procedure Unit treats over 3,800 patients annually, providing a day service for minor surgery, laparoscopy and the administration of specialised infusions and transfusions.

Endoscopy Suite performs over 3,100 gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures annually, catering for outpatients as well as inpatients.

Due to the high turnover, there is always something interesting happening in the Unit, providing plenty of learning opportunities.  The support from the staff aids the development of skills such as admission and discharge, theatre preparation, assisting in the Endoscopy Suite, postoperative care and assessment, pain management, and patient education.

Additional learning opportunities include the Venepuncture, Intravenous Cannulation and Venesection packages and competencies.  Study days and inservices are available and free of charge to all employees.
