| Child and Adolescent Health Unit (CAHU) is a 22 bed Unit, caring for babies and children from birth through to 18 years. Newly re-furbished, CAHU has a family-friendly feel, lovely play areas (both inside and outside) - and a fantastic video games console!!
Receiving patients from Emergency Department, and also elective admissions makes for an exciting and busy unit, with learning opportunities at every corner.
With such a wide range in age groups, our paediatric and adolescent patients will challenge you to develop your skills and knowledge, as well as communication techniques, time management, pre and post-op skills and patient assessment – particularly respiratory assessment. |

Common presentations and conditions in this specialty area include asthma and bronchiolitis, fractured bones, dehydration, “failure to thrive” as well as many varied surgical procedures.
The Clown Doctors are sure to entertain when they visit, and services such as the Tweddle Sleep Clinic provide an invaluable service to the community.
As a Graduate Nurse in this area, we also provide you supernumerary time in the Special Care Nursery, a wonderful opportunity to experience neonatal nursing care.
If you are interested in furthering your knowledge in Paediatrics, there are many relevant study days and a Postgraduate Course available to suitable applicants. |
