After Hours GP Clinic 

Did you know you can be seen by a general practitioner at The Northern Hospital?  Our After Hours General Practice Clinic - one of the first in Australia - was set up to overcome a lack of affordable, accessible GP treatment in the growing northern suburbs. The Clinic is attached to the Hospital's Emergency Department, and is available only to patients who present at the ED with less serious conditions, which could appropriately be treated by a General Practitioner. The new arrangements allows these patients to see a doctor sooner, without having to wait until the more urgent cases have been dealt with in the Emergency Department. The After Hours GP Clinic bulk bills its patients, so their treatment effectively is free of charge - just as if they had been treated in a public hospital.

 
The Clinic will also help to reduce the pressure on the Emergency Department, which treats about 70,000 patients a year, making it Victoria's busiest.  With some patients now electing to consult the after hours GP, the ED staff will be free to treat only genuine emergency cases.

In addition, the co-location of the clinic with The Northern Hospital means clinic patients have ready access to a vast suite of diagnostic services under the same roof.

The clinic is open from 7pm-12 midnight Monday to Friday, 2pm to 10pm on Saturdays, and 10am to 10pm on Sundays.   Call 8405 8000 (hospital reception) and ask for the After Hours GP Clinic.
