About the Northern Health Acute Care Graduate Nurse Program

The aim of the Acute Care Graduate Nurse Program is to facilitate the transistion of the novice to an advanced beginner nurse.  This is done through a structured, clinically focussed program which prepares nurses to work independently in a diverse environment.

The Northern Hospital's Clinical Nurse Educators, Preceptors and nursing staff provide practical assistance and support in the clinical environment.

Additional benefits of the Acute Program include Specialist Clinical Nurse Educator support in elective areas and night duty is limited to 2 - 4 weeks for the year.

GRADUATE NURSE PROGRAM DETAILS
- Duration 54 weeks
- 3 days Graduate specific orientation program / followed by up to 7   supernumerary shifts
- Additional supernumerary shifts in subsequent rotations
- 5 – 7 paid Graduate specific study days
- Clinical preceptors
- Free inhouse education
- Clinical Nurse Educators ratio of 1:8 Monday to Friday (0800 - 1600   hours)
- Weekends and Evening Clinical Nurse Educator cover January to June
- Educators in specialty areas
- 2-4 weeks night duty.

 
POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR 2011
- T.B.A. - graduate positions
- Commencing in January and March.
- The program is offered full time or part time (8 shifts per fortnight)
- Honours Program Graduates accommodated.
