Maternity & Women's Health
Maternity and Women’s Health provides a comprehensive range of women’s health services. The Unit provides 9 Birthing Suites, 28 Obstetric/Gynaecology beds, and a 16 cot Level 2 Special Care Nursery. The Unit facilitates 1800-2000 births annually and provides Antenatal Education, Pregnancy Assessment Day Stay Service, Diabetic Clinic, Domiciliary Care, Neonatal Hospital in the Home (HITH), Lactation and Breastfeeding Service, Breastfeeding Day Stay and Young Mums Clinic.
The Gynaecology service provides quality care for patient’s pre and post operatively for procedures such as hysterectomy, oophrectomy, anterior/posterior vaginal repair, and laparoscopic treatment for endometriosis and fibroids.

Women’s Health is a 10 week elective for Graduate Nurses in the General stream (GNP). This involves caring for Gynaecology patient’s in this busy, exciting surgical area, whilst assisting Midwives in the ante and post natal area also – where there are lots of babies needing a cuddle!
Midwifery Graduates undertaking the Graduate Midwifery Program (GMP) will be rotated through Ante Natal & Post Natal Inpatient Area, Birthing Suite (including operating theatre for caesarean births) and Special Care Nursery. The duration of rotation depends on the position being applied. |
