| The Northern Hospital's Emergency Department consists of the triage area, 2 resuscitation cubicles, 10 monitored beds, 11 non monitored, 5-seated treatment area, 7 paediatric cubicles, and Short Stay Unit (Click here for more information on the Short Stay Unit).
Due to the vast catchment area of The Northern Hospital, our Emergency Department is amongst the busiest in Victoria, treating almost 70,000 patients annually.
Experience a diverse mix of presentations to the Emergency Department, such as Acute Myocardial Infarct, Respiratory Failure & Asthma, Pain for Investigation, Industrial Accidents and Trauma. The Northern also has a helipad for transport of critical patients to other facilities.
Develop your assessment skills, time management and prioritisation, pain management, intravenous hydration, communication and overall knowledge of illness and investigations with the support and guidance of specialty Clinical Nurse Educators.
Regular in-servicing is carried out on the Unit and through Short Courses and Study Days. The STEP (Supported Transition to Emergency Practice) Program and Postgraduate Studies in Emergency Nursing are also available to suitable applicants. |
