Unit D    

Unit D is a 30 bed Surgical Unit, specialising in Colo-rectal surgery.

Unit D’s diverse and often complex patient mix provides many learning opportunities and challenges which are supported by experienced staff and Clinical Nurse Specialists, including Stomal Therapy and the ICU Liaison Nurses.

Common surgical procedures include Hemicolectomy, VATS (Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery), Femoral-Popliteal Bypass, Trans-Urethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) and Partial Gastrectomy. 

Of the many surgical skills to be gained, some include wound and drain tube care, removal of sutures and staples, nasogastric care, stomal care and education, epidural management, continuous bladder washout, care of Central Lines (CVC and PICC), TPN administration and vascular observations.

Take advantage of free in-hospital education such as Wound Management Study Days, PICC and CVAD workshops and inservices including Legbag/ Catheter Care and Stomal Care.
