With the opening of its second major upgrade early in 2007, and a continuing increase in patient numbers, The Northern Hospital has become indisputably one of Melbourne's major acute treatment centres.

The number of patients using the 300-bed hospital has increased significantly each year since it opened in 1998.

Our Emergency Department is the busiest in the state, treating nearly 70,000 patients annually, while still managing to better many government-mandated waiting time targets.
 
The Stage 2A Redevelopment was completed in February 2007.  Costing more than $25 million, the redevelopment has provided two new 32-bed wards, an upgraded and expanded Emergency Department, a larger Outpatients area, and addtional office space and staff facilities.

Visiting Hours at The Northern Hospital are 2pm - 8pm. 
Arrangements can be made outside of these hours for patients in areas such as the Children's Unit, the Intensive Care Unit and the Maternity & Women's Health Department - please speak to nursing staff to discuss.
