Northern Health Allied Health offers a range of exciting employment opportunities across the continuum of care. Within the large organisation there are many prospects for professional advancement, with positions ranging from graduate entry through to clinical specialty roles and leadership positions.

There is a strong commitment to professional development within Allied Health. Staff are encouraged and supported to attend internal and external events. Many Allied Health staff progress to undertake postgraduate studies.

Exercise Physiology
Exercise Physiologists who are accredited with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) are eligible for employment at Northern Health.
New graduate Exercise Physiologist staff benefit from a structured interdisciplinary learning and support program.

Hand Therapy
Within the Hand Therapy service, there are Grade 1, 2 and 3 positions. The structured supervision process within the Hand Therapy service ensures clinicians continue to develop their clinical and leadership skills in preparation to apply for more senior roles within Hand Therapy and Allied Health. The Hand Therapy service also has role for a Grade 3 Allied Health assistant to work with the Hand Therapists providing clinical care and administrative support. For Grade 1 Occupational Therapists, there is a 12 month rotational Grade 1 position (across Hand Therapy and General Medicine). This rotation is open to experienced Grade 1 therapists and provides the opportunity to for the Grade 1 to develop clinical skills in this specialist area.

Nutrition and Dietetics
Northern Health Nutrition and Dietetics department provides a range of career opportunities across the continuum of care. Speciality roles exist in a wide range of speciality areas covering diabetes, gastrointestinal surgery, intensive care, paediatrics, oncology, renal, weight management and wound care. Grade 3 positions provide leadership across the following areas: Acute, Subacute, Clinical Education, Paediatrics and Renal Services. The Grade 1 and 2 positions cover a range of areas and staff move within areas based on interest and workload requirements.

Occupational Therapy
There are many career opportunities across the range of areas and specialties within Occupational Therapy. For Occupational Therapists, there are many Grade 1, 2 and 3 roles across acute, subacute, ambulatory and community areas and clinicians are supported in developing their skills, specialising, and with career progression through formal supervision with experienced senior staff.

For Grade 1 Occupational Therapists, we have 11 rotational positions across the health service. The rotations are organized to give therapists the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills across a variety of clinical programmes and to encourage increased understanding of the Occupational Therapy role across the continuum of care.

Orthoptics
The Northern Health Orthoptics Department offers a range of exciting employment opportunities across ambulatory services. With a focus on professional development and prospect for professional advancement positions range from new graduate level to senior Orthoptist roles. Many positions within the department offer a dynamic case load with varied clinical responsibilities and potential for exposure to orthoptics led clinics.

Orthotics
The Northern Health Orthotics Department offers a range of exciting employment opportunities across acute, sub-acute and ambulatory services. With a focus on professional development and prospect for professional advancement, positions range from AHA to senior orthotist roles. The positions within the department offer a dynamic case load with varied clinical responsibilities and potential for exposure to a range of  speciality areas.

Physiotherapy
Northern Health Physiotherapy provides a diverse range career opportunities across acute and subacute inpatient areas, ambulatory and community settings. Specialty areas are offered across the health spectrum including primary contact, emergency, musculoskeletal, cardio-respiratory, neurology, aged care, paediatrics, women’s health and chronic disease. Physiotherapists have the opportunity to develop more specific skills in areas of interest and are well supported by experienced senior staff.

Northern Health Allied Health is committed to advancing skills and professional development and encourages attendance at relevant external conferences and seminars and also supports post graduate education. This provides opportunities for NH physiotherapists to develop in a supported environment and also provides opportunities for career advancement.

Northern Health offers a diverse experience for junior physiotherapist through its rotation program. All Northern Health Physiotherapy Grade 1 staff take part in the rotation program across the 4 NH sites three times a year. The program offers diverse experiences across multiple services. Podiatry
The Northern Health Podiatry Department offers a range of exciting employment opportunities across acute,  sub-acute and ambulatory services. Psychology
Northern Health Psychology offers a range of career opportunities across inpatient, ambulatory and community settings with opportunities to work within speciality areas including rehabilitation, chronic disease, Cognitive Dementia and Memory Service (CDAMS), oncology, and children’s services. Psychologists are supported with clinical supervision, and opportunities for professional development.

Social Work
Social Work offers a range of excellent employment opportunities for Grade 1, 2, 3 and 4 Social Workers across Acute, Sub Acute and Ambulatory Services. Clinicians are supported in developing their skills and expertise and with career progression through formal supervision with experienced senior staff.

Speech Pathology
Northern Health Speech Pathology Department provides a diverse range of career opportunities across acute inpatient, ambulatory and community settings. Specialty areas are offered across the health spectrum including tracheostomy management, tracheal suctioning, paediatric feeding and videofluoroscopy. Speech Pathology staff has the opportunity to develop more specific skills in areas of interest through competency packages and are well supported by experienced senior staff.

The Northern Health Speech Pathology Department is a member of all Special Interest Groups within Metropolitan Melbourne and the Australian Aphasia Association (Triple AAA).

Northern Health offers a diverse experience for junior speech pathologists through its rotation program. All Northern Health Speech Pathology Grade 1 staff take part in the rotation program across the 4 Northern Health sites every 6 months. The program offers diverse experiences across multiple services.
