Videos & DVDs
Northern Health regularly produces videos and DVDs aimed at health professionals and lay audiences alike. Currently two productions are available: "Finger Feeding" and "Upright & All Right: A Guide to Falls Prevention". See below for full details.

"Finger Feeding"
Finger feeding is a method of feeding that allows a baby to be fed without resorting to the use of an artificial teat. It is a technique that allows a health professional to carry out an oral assessment of the baby whilst giving a milk feeding. This is a method that helps train the baby to take the breast. Finger feeding is especially useful in supporting babies through the transitional phase of part-suck to all-suck feeds. This is very relevant to the premature infant. This short video shows how to competently and safely finger feed a baby, regardless of its gestation or age. It is an excellent resource to use for the instruction of parents and staff. Available on DVD or VHS Video.

"Upright & All Right: A Guide to Falls Prevention"
DVD or VHS Video $25 (individuals) or $50 (health professionals & organisations)
Falls are the leading cause of injury-related admission to hospital in older Australians. One-third of people aged 65 and over can expect to fall at least once every year, and approximately half of these falls will result in some form of injury. Falls can also lead to a loss of confidence and consequent restriction in activity and lifestyle.
This presentation, produced by leading practitioners in the falls prevention field, clearly and concisely answers a number of important questions concerning falls.
- What are falls and their consequences? - How do we maintain our balance? - What factors contribute to the risk of falling? - What can be done to prevent falls, including the development of an individualised Falls Prevention Plan? - What can be done to prevent injuries caused by falling?
Using clear explanations and engaging visual aids, "Upright & All Right" is an ideal educational tool for older people, particularly those who have fallen or are at risk of falling, their carers, and health professionals alike. |
