Unit A  

Unit A is a 32 bed Acute Medical & Palliative Care Unit.  It has been custom built to provide a warm and friendly light filled environment, with ample space, day room facilities and large single rooms to accommodate the Palliative Care patient.

Specialist services including the Aged Care Assessment Team and the Palliative Care Service assist Unit A in delivering thorough, holistic medical care and treatment to the acutely ill or palliative patient.

Common patient conditions include Unstable Angina, Chronic Obstructive Airway Disease, Congestive Cardiac Failure, Asthma, Liver Failure, Diabetes Mellitus and Advanced Illness requiring palliation.

Many nursing skills can be gained through working with the Unit A team including patient assessment skills, discharge planning (multi-disciplinary approach), pharmacology management, as well as clinical skills such as tracheostomy care, management of blood product transfusions, management of Central Venous Access Devices (including PICC lines and Implanted Ports), syringe driver management and care of the palliative patient and family.
