Allied Health

The Division of Allied Health was established from Northern Health inception and has continued to grow and develop with the Health Service. The Allied Health Division has more than doubled during this time (currently approximately 220 staff). The Division comprises: audiology, dietetics, exercise physiology, hand therapy, occupational therapy, orthoptics, orthotics, physiotherapy, podiatry, social work, speech pathology, recreation therapy and allied health assistants.
Northern Health Allied Health is structured to foster effective interdisciplinary and professional leadership to support achievement of the Northern Health Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Objectives. Essentially, our Mission statement represents these: to apply our resources to work with our staff and partners, offering our diverse community excellence in health care.
The Chief Allied Health Officer is a key member of the Northern Health Executive – holding the portfolio for professional and operational leadership of allied health, together with the portfolio for Community Integration, which includes responsibility for the Craigieburn and Panch Health Services.
Northern Health Allied Health currently has links with many training institutions and universities. These include La Trobe, Deakin, Monash, Melbourne, Victoria and Charles Sturt Universities as well as several TAFE institutions. Allied Health plays a significant role in providing services to the community through inpatient, ambulatory and community based programs. Medical, surgical, emergency, intensive and coronary care, paediatrics, women’s and maternal health, aged care, palliative care and rehabilitation programs are all supported by Northern Health Allied Health staff. Below are more specific areas in which Allied Health provide services across both Acute, Continuing Care and Community Based programs.
