Victorian Public Healthcare Awards - Winners!
Northern Health is delighted to share that our Northern Health Koori Maternity Service won the Minister for Health's Award for Improving Indigenous Health - Closing the Gap at this week’s Victorian Public Healthcare Awards!
The Koori Maternity Service was first launched in 2013, and aims to provide accessible and culturally appropriate pregnancy care that improves birth outcomes for Koori families in the north.
The service also provides linkages to pathways for community support services that improve the wider health and wellbeing of Koori mothers, their newborns and families.
Outcomes have been overwhelmingly positive, including increased birth weights, decreased smoking and alcohol consumption while pregnant, and a positive impact on the broader health of mothers and babies.
The Victorian Public Healthcare Awards are an annual celebration of excellence, dedication and innovation in public health, and Northern Health would like to congratulate Jodie Ashworth, Paul Howat, Cathy Fletcher, Abby Monaghan and Joanne Quinn. This is a fantastic achievement, not only for the Koori Maternity Service but for all of Northern Health, and we are pleased and proud to see this hard work and dedication recognised.
